Line Mortensen

With a background in landscape architecture and big scale construction I have always had a true passion for design and materials. I took up mosaic as an art form only a few years ago but have since then exhibited with Craft Scotland's in Edinburgh and had my work featured in Craft & Design Magazine March/April issue 2014.

The main body of my mosaic work are wall mosaics (framed/unframed). My work is mostly abstract and recognisable by its originality, contemporary look, heavy textures and a unique combination of materials and colours.

My love of materials shows in my work where I regularly use and mix multiple materials such as Italian Smalti glass, French ceramic tiles, sea glass, slate, gemstones and more.

In my work I aim to create something which is “beautiful” in a non-obvious way and will challenge the imagination of the observer. The personalise interpretation is important to me since the aim is for the observer to “feel” the piece as well as enjoy its appetence.

I am a Danish architect, designer and mosaic artist based in Scotland. I have always been creative and my educational background is a MSc. in landscape architecture with a specialisation in Golf Course Design.

After Lecturing in Golf Course Design at Edinburgh Collage of Art I ran my own Architect Business for a long while but a few years back I also became an arts & crafter. I have involved myself in arts, crafts and design related to multiple mediums however when I discovered mosaic as an art form I knew I had found the perfect artistic outlet here my passion for materials, textures and colours could merged into one.
